Take part in our Junior Reporter Challenge for Govanhill International Festival
And all the rest of the August fun and latest Govanhill news
In the first two weeks of August every year, Govanhill International Festival and Carnival fills our streets with colour in a celebration of the diversity and community organisations of the area. The festival plays host to a variety of events from talks and screenings to workshops and just plain old fun.
This year, we’re inviting children and young people aged 10-16 to get involved in producing a special issue of the Greater Govanhill magazine including reviews of festival events and writing about the issues that matter to them. This two part workshop will provide practical support to enable people to produce their own articles and images.
The workshops will happen on Saturday 5th and 12th of August.
You can either sign-up through this link or you can email jack@greatergovanhill.com for further details.
We will also be hosting a launch event for Part II of our FONDS project
What stories can be told by the objects we hold most dear? Greater Govanhill have once again teamed up with photographer Morwenna Kearsley (Govanhill’s artist in residence through Street Level Photoworks Culture Collective programme) for FONDS. From a found feather to a two hundred year old blouse, from a framed certificate to a hand sewn purse. The objects in the homes around Govanhill reveal the stories of migration that make Govanhill so unique.
Following the exhibition last year, we are now working on the part two, taking more photographs and creating a podcast. In this event, we’ll hear some of those stories, and give you the chance to share yours. You can get yourself a free ticket for the event here.
Find out about all the other events happening as part of the festival here!
Watch Now: Refugee Festival Scotland Shorts
