Learn radio journalism with our new free workshop programme
There are LOADS of opportunities to get involved with Greater Govanhill at the moment!
Introduction to Radio Journalism course
Take part in this introduction to radio journalism workshop series at Greater Govanhill this summer. Across the series’ four sessions, you’ll gain skills and knowledge in finding new stories, interviewing, developing ideas for radio, as well as recording and editing audio. Alongside this, there’ll also be a chance to try out presenting in a workshop session at Radio Buena Vida!
You’ll come away with a short radio journalism piece, which will air on RBV for Govanhill International Festival 2023. You’ll also gain an understanding of different forms of radio journalism and get ideas and practical advice on where and how you could platform your piece
This project would suit people interested in journalism, podcasting or radio journalism. Beginners to audio are welcome! The course will be led by Radio Producer and Sound Artist - Ros Fraser and sessions will take place in the Community Newsroom and Radio Buena Vida.

We are still looking for FONDs volunteers
We have been busy working with lots of local residents objects for our latest edition of the FONDS — a project that tells the stories and histories of people in the area through the objects that matter most to them. But we are still on the lookout for more volunteers to share the stories of their objects! If you’d like to get involved, book a slot here and bring along your photo to be photographed. You can find out more about the project here
What keeps you well?
With our new bi-monthly run, we are already working on ideas for our August issue of Greater Govanhill which will focus on community solutions to health inequalities. It forms part of the final chapter of our year-long investigation into the topic here in Scotland with our partners The Ferret.
We want to know what community initiatives help to improve your health and wellbeing and, in some cases, plug the gaps that institutional health services miss. This could be anything - maybe there's a crafting class you go to every week or a space that lets you discuss specific issues for your community. We want to hear about anything, little or large.

Get your tickets for the ‘It’s Criminal’ performance
Come and join us for a journey into the world of crime and the media. Who chooses the headlines? Who chooses the stories? Is there a tsunami of crime or does the news make things feel worse than they really are? Who gets named and shamed in the press and what does this mean for them? Who gets stereotyped as thugs and thieves? And who is rich, powerful or hidden enough to escape justice and the news pages?
It’s Criminal so it is.
Could we, just could we, imagine a better way of doing things?
A collaboration between The Ferret, Greater Govanhill Magazine and Contemporary Narratives Lab, with support from City University of London.
The performance will run on June 22nd at the Tron Theatre. Tickets are free but must be reserved here
