Indie News Week 2025: Find out what's on in The Community Newsroom 👀
Sign-up for our in-person event Action: Responding to rolling news from Palestine as part of Indie News Week 2025! And catch up on all the latest from our website... 🗞️
Last year we took part in the inaugural Indie News Week launched by the Public Interest News Foundation (PINF) and supported by 40 independent and local news providers across the UK, including ourselves.
This year, the annual awareness-raising and crowdfunding campaign for independent news returns, running from 9 – 15 June.
As part of Indie News Week 2025, The Community Newsroom is pleased to launch a new series of events, News → Action.
The events will be hosted by Greater Govanhill, The Ferret and The New Internationalist to provide local, national and international perspectives on news coverage and the role of the media.
These will be in-person events that provide a platform for us to come together, share ideas, and discuss actionable steps we can take.
In this first event, we’ll hear from grassroots activists about local actions for Palestine and how you can get involved. You can find out more about the upcoming event in this week’s newsletter under the Community Noticeboard section. Scroll ahead for more details!
As well as all the usual content: including the latest from our website and our Community Noticeboard 💛
Yours,
Devon

Missed Connections…Submissions Open!
Our new column Missed Connections will feature in the August edition of the magazine.
We had a couple of submissions last time around but not enough to publish in our last issue: All Things Digital. Once again we are asking residents and readers to send in their personal messages - anonymously or with a first name attached - to that one person you wish you stopped in the street and said hello to.
Whether it’s a nice message for the local shopkeeper, the neighbour who helped you with your shopping or that special someone who caught your eye who you really wish you gave your number to, we’re here to help you connect!
Just email devon@greatergovanhill.com with the subject line ‘Missed Connections’ by 5 July with your message and your preference for how you’d like to appear in the magazine (first name, socials, anonymously - it’s up to you!) and we’ll publish you in the August edition.
Join our Whatsapp Community 📱
Greater Govanhill’s new Whatsapp community keeps you up to date with the latest happenings in the neighbourhood. Avoid the morning doom scroll and get the most important news in one place. If you’re worried about a drone of notifications, fear not! The group is more of a space to read than to chat. If you’re looking for a bit more interaction, head over to our writer’s group to see our latest pitches and suggest stories of your own. To join the group, scan the QR code or follow this link.
