🗺️ We are pretty new to Substack here at Greater Govanhill so it was fun discover the tab on our dashboard where we could what countries around the world have people who read our newsletter. 🗺️
We have subscribers across 21 countries including a surprisingly high percentage in Germany and readers in places as far away as Japan - who would have guessed! 👩⚖️ A man has been found not guilty of threatening police officers and resisting arrest at a mass immigration protest in Glasgow. Kairos Pakleppa, 34, denied committing the offence on Kenmure Street in Pollokshields on 13 May, 2021. Pakleppa pleaded not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner. He also denied a charge of resisting, obstructing or hindering police officers in the execution of their duty. Sheriff Mark McGuire acquitted Pakleppa, of the two charges. 🏠 New laws around short-term rentals in Scotland cause controversy. From October 1st, any short term rentals (like Air BNB) in Scotland will have to apply for a license to run, which will have strict regulations and incur a fee. Govanhill in recent times have seen a number of Air BNBs pop-up and there has been much discussion about whether this is good or not. We would love to hear you views below. 🐦 Pigeons found tied up in Glasgow area in 'bizarre' spate of incidents. Animal welfare charity SPCA was alerted to the latest incident on September 3 – when a member of the public discovered a bird near Calder Street, Govanhill. But several other reports have been made regarding pigeons being found in similar circumstances in the area since April this year. An appeal for information has been launched. ⚽️ England beat Scotland in 150th anniversary match in Hampden Park, just weeks after locals uncover more evidence that the birth of modern football happened just down the road in Crosshill. Locals have been investigating the hidden Eglinton Terrace just off Victoria Road as the birth of modern football for sometime now. In yesterday’s match England beat Scotland 3-1. 🏞️ Take part in a community consultation into what you would like to see happen in Queen’s Park. Queen’s Park Working Group is a community and Council partnership. They have secured Area Partnership funding to undertake a community consultation as an input to developing ideas of how to improve Queen’s Park & Recreation Ground. You can fill in the survey here.
