How one group of residents transformed their back lane for a community gathering
Plus: Places to visit for Doors Open Day, Community composting, a job vacancy with us, Tape Letters exhibition announced, next community litter pick dates, and more!
We have an absolutely bumper edition of the newsletter for you this Friday, for a little afternoon read to wind down your week. Loads going on at the moment, whether it’s a chance to do a some snooping with Doors Open Day, or the preparations under way for the Tape Letters exhibition in our Tramway space.
But perhaps my favourite story is about how one group of residents got fed up of their back lane being fly tipped and took action to completely transform the space. This is something we’ll be reporting on more in the next issue of the mag – out in October – which will look into how people have made a difference, and what support there is out there for communities.
Enjoy!

Next community litter pick date
Please arrive in time for our safety brief at 10.30am at Govanhill Free Church on Belleisle St. And join us for a tea/coffee and lunch after the litter pick at 12 15pm.
Once again we are inviting anyone in, or neighbouring, the community to join us for another litterpick at the end of this month, and are encouraging people to collect any cans and/or plastic bottles (in decent condition) that have been discarded in our streets since it proved to be a successful way of raising some funds to buy teas and lunch for everyone.
As always, thank you everyone who is supporting the initiative by volunteering, spreading the word, helping with equipment and teas – you make it happen! If any local businesses are interested in supporting the Govanhill Litter Pick group, drop us a direct message!
And…
I went on the brilliant Media Voices podcast this week to talk about the story of Greater Govanhill, the value of community listening and our FONDS project. Check it out here.
